Day 4: Scenic flight to Jomsom and ride to Kagbeni

A very scenic 15 minute flight will take us to Jomsom, a village located at 2743m between the Annapurnas and Dhaulagiri mountains. We will have breakfast in Jomsom, check the bikes and head towards the mountains, passing along the Kaligandaki gorge. Destination: Kagbeni (2840m), an ancient Tibetan village, gateway to Upper Mustang. Before reaching Kagbeni, we will detour to Panglign crossing the suspension bridge and on a scenic nature trail through apple fields. During the drive to Jomsom, you will realize that Mustang is unlike any other place: characterized by its arid land, its windswept desert hills and its wide palette of colors: shades of pink, purple, brown and gray. To the south of these colorful mountains lies Kagbeni, known as “the village beyond the mountains”. After lunch, riders are free to explore the village, dotted with irrigation canals, apple fields, and beyond the modern village of Kagbeni, abandoned houses – part of the old village, destroyed, according to legend, by a demon with the head of a lion and the body of a serpent.

Details: 15km of jeep track and singletrails, D+ approx. 550m / D- approx. 400m

Day 5: Ride from Kagbeni to Muktinath, down Lubra valley

We start the day with sunrise over Nilgiri mountain (7061m) and Kaligandaki gorge. We are now ready for a good day of mountain biking. Just after leaving the village, we begin our ascent to Muktinath (3800m), a temple sacred to Hindus and Buddhists located at the foot of the Thorang La pass (5416m). A 3-4 hour climb to Muktinath will bring you to the starting point, where you will feel the altitude. We will break for lunch so you can catch your breath, drink some cool water and enjoy lunch served at Ranipauwa, the village below Muktinath Temple, overlooking the valley. After lunch, we will descend to Kagbeni village on dusty mountainside trails where you can enjoy fast and flowing sections.

Details: 35km of jeep track and singletrails, D+ approx. 1400m / D- approx. 2100m

Day 6: Climb to a high altitude lake, flowy and technical downhill

This day will be spent in the Tinigahon region. We begin our ascent to an isolated lake located at 3800m where we will take a picnic break and enjoy the panorama. After lunch, we will continue our climb to a plateau located at 4200m offering spectacular views of some of the highest peaks in the world. Then comes the best: a superb flowy and technical trail that can only make you smile. A deserved descent that few riders have ridden.

Day 7: Shuttle & climb to 4700m and downhill to Kalopani

In the morning, we follow in the footsteps of the best riders in the world. A big climb awaits us (4 hours to reach the pedal pass at 4200m), but to avoid getting out of breath, we will do this first part by shuttle! For the rest, we will cycle 2 hours to reach the summit at 4700m. Following this effort, an incredible descent awaits us. We begin with a technical descent through local mule trails, rolling stones, exposed sections and sharp turns for an incredible trail ride further down the valley.

Day 8: Ride of a sandy peak and single tracks in the forest

Departure towards a peak reaching 4600m! The climb is long, but the view is splendid, being just below Daulaghiri. The descent promises you sensations: the sandy wall of this peak will give you the impression of surfing in the middle of the Himalayas. Fun and dust guaranteed!

After lunch, we will ride through the Kali Gyndaki gorge to Kalopani. The trails will take us into lush pine forests, where the single trails are fun and fast.

Day 9: Ascend to Numsang, a high plateau and ride among the lakes

From Kalopani, we head towards the mountains, towards Numsang, a high plateau where many yaks live. Facing Dalhaugiri mountain, we will take a break to regain strength before heading into a beautiful downhill section. We will end the day in a region near Dalhaugiri where two magnificent small lakes are hidden.

Day 10: Ride from Kalopani to the bottom of the valley & transfer to Pokhara

For our last day of riding some of the highest peaks in the world, we will go down and down again. The first 3 hours will be a splendid downhill mixing technical and flowy sections. The next two hours will be calmer, driving on jeep tracks to reach Beni, the village at the entrance to Mustang. At this place a van will be waiting for us to take us back to Pokhara in a few hours.
