Detailed itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Arrival in Kathmandu, where we will pick you up from the airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel. We will do a final check on the bikes to ensure they are in order before the big trip. We will then take the time to tour the city, visit the historical quarter, enjoy local food, and optionally have a yoga session.
Day 2: Flight to Phaplu – afternoon ride
After breakfast, we will fly to Phaplu (2500m), one of the most beautiful villages in Solukhumbu. With its flowers and apple fields, this typical, yet modern village, is one of the green jewels in the district.
In the afternoon, we’ll ride trails in its surroundings and then play a bit on the local pump track. What a day to kick off your trip!
Day 3: Ride around Phaplu with Everest in sight
Starting from the village, we’ll climb to the top of a small hill, at 3300m (shuttle possible) and enjoy amazing trails. We will cross some altitude lakes before reaching the plateau. You’ll have the chance to ride some of Nepal’s best trails and enjoy a scenic view of 8000m summits and the Everest Mount!
The night will be in a comfortable lodge in Phaplu.
Details: 30-50km of singletrails, D+ (uphill) approx. 8000m / D- (downhill) approx. 1’000m
Day 4: Forest trails and fun
Let’s start the day with a warm-up: a climb will bring you to the home of the first trails in central Nepal, “Ratnange Trails Centre”. A place from which you could choose among 13 trails from flowy to technical, lush forest trails or looser options, for over 60 km of ride.
Details: 30-60km of singletrails, D+: 1000-2000m / D-: 1’000-2000m
Day 5: From the monastery to Phaplu
In the morning, we’ll shuttle you to the Chiwong monastery, built at the beginning of the 20th century. After the visit, you will ride a beautiful and technical downhill, heading back towards Phaplu.
After lunch, we’ll start our journey to Pickey Peak. The transfer will be done by jeep to reach another village settled at 3200m high. From there, we have a 180° view of the Himalayan range.
Day 6: Pickey Peak as a playground
The climb to Pickey Peak will take us to its base camp at 3700m high. Starting on a jeep track, we will continue our ascent in the forest, on a superb single trail. Possibility to shuttle half of the climb to keep your energy for the next day.
Night in a remote, typical tea house.
Day 7: Reaching the summit for a long, beautiful downhill ride
Early morning we pedal and then push/carry our bike for about an hour to reach Pickey Peak summit (4050m), where you may feel the altitude. We’ll pause for a snack and drink while admiring the view: from the top, we have a splendid view of 5 mountains over 8000m, one of the most beautiful views of the Himalayan range!
Then comes the well-deserved long downhill ride taking us through a variety of landscapes and terrains. Fun, flowy, with technical challenges, from dry soil to green forest, this ride takes us 2500m down!
Day 8: Scenic ride to the biggest monastery
After a comfortable night in Phaplu, we will be riding a smooth and beautiful trail, ending in Thupten Choeling monastery, the biggest monastery in Solukhumbu where 700 monks and nuns live.
We will spend the night in the monastery.
Details: 30km of singletrails, D+ (uphill) approx. 500m / D- (downhill) approx. 200m
Day 9: Ceremony at the monastery and trail ride
Waking up in the monastery, we will attend the morning ceremony. Then, we will ride back to Phaplu through fun and rapid singletrails. We’ll take a break next to lovely altitude lakes and continue to ride on fast, fun single trails in the lush pine forest. Reaching our base camp, we’ll enjoy a traditional dinner and rest for the next day.
Day 10: In the forest trails of Phaplu
It’s our final day in Phaplu. Depending on your motivation, we have plenty of options for this riding day. Shuttle will be proposed to allow for a maximum number of trails.
Details: 30-40km of singletrails, D+ (uphill) approx. 1000m / D- (downhill) approx. Up to 2500m
Day 11: Riding down the valley & transfer to the capital
In the morning, a 1h drive takes us to Dhap (3000m), the starting point of the last long ride down the valley along the Sunekoshi River. The first hour will be a splendid downhill mixing technical and flowy sections, followed by a mix of jeep tracks and single trails. Reaching the bottom of the valley (300m), a vehicle will be waiting for us to take us back to Kathmandu (4-5h drive).
The evening is free to enjoy the historical centre of the capital or do some souvenir shopping.
